During a conversation with Dr. Blake, the Martian’s “OBE” acronym is incorrectly explained as “Overtaken by Events.” In U.S. government agencies, including the intelligence community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation for the acronym “OBE” is “Overtaken by Events.” The characters and scenes in the opening credits are interwoven with mirrored glass. Former CIA counterintelligence director James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy poet”, described the brain game as a “desert of mirrors”, a phrase borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title means “little old man” in Greek and the poem is an internal monologue about the thoughts and feelings of an older man who describes Europe after World War I through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century). In the intellectual world, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish between reality and its reflection, as if we were in a “hall of mirrors”, an illusion. First of all, the casting is absolutely incredible. We get Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, and Katherine Waterston. The casting is enough to make this series worth trying, and what’s more, it’s a very good series. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this series and many of the cast nominated for awards come awards season. This series is about a CIA agent (Fassbender) who is ordered to leave his life as a secret agent and return to the field with his ex-girlfriend (Waterston), whom he still loves. His love for her begins to interfere with his real life and mission. If you’re a fan of spy thrillers or good detective series, give this one a try. You won’t be disappointed.
